HOW TO USE/DIRECTIONS FAQS

You have two options for smoking with our barrel wood smoking chunks.

Dry Method (Recommended): Simply add three to four chunks directly onto the fire or heat source for a slow, steady smoke. Using tongs, move the chunks to the edge as needed to allow the chunks to smolder without igniting.

Wet Method: Soak the chunks in water for 30 minutes. If you’re feeling experimental, try using beer or fruit juice! Drain and add the chunks to a box, smoker tray or foil and place over the hottest area of your grill to begin smoking.

BARREL FAQS

We source our barrels from a variety of American distilleries, wineries and breweries. Visit midwestbarrelco.com for examples of some of the barrels we currently have in stock. Please note that our barrel inventory does not reflect which barrels we have set aside for smoking wood. However, this will give you an idea of the variety barrels we receive.

Never! Other brands will try to get away with adding oak and often maple to barrel wood, but not us. No blends here! All of our barrel smoking wood is 100% American White Oak from authentic, used barrels.

Members of our team hand cut and chip barrel staves – the individual wood planks that form the body of the barrel – into our barrel BBQ smoking wood at our headquarters in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The ages of the barrels we use for smoking wood varies. For bourbon barrels, they are typically 4+ years old and have been freshly emptied before we make them into smoking wood. Stout beer barrels are often about a year older, as they’ve been used again to age beer, while wine barrels typically are a couple older still.

No matter the age of the barrel, we guarantee they have been freshly emptied before being made into smoking wood. That's how our wood smells so great and provides even more flavor!
